Today we decided to do some learnin' and visit a museum. On the walk into town we heard what sounded like a party, so we followed the commotion... We turned the corner and came face to face with a swat team! Oops! The "party" was a protest, we quickly rerouted, and snapped a pic from a safe distance.
We opted to go to the museum specializing in Machu Picchu. Max fell asleep shortly after arriving, which was great because I could spend time reading the plaques, watching the videos and taking a 45 minute virtual tour. Now I have my back pocket full of fun facts for when we arrive at the real thing.
Max was well rested after his museum nap and ready to run around. Someone on the street gave him a map and he insisted on carrying it around for the rest of the day.
Thanks to this little map we found our way to various little parks and courtyards where Max could roam freely.
We also found the Chocolate museum where sampled several different types, my favourite was milk chocolate with mango. Max ate the dark chocolate for me, blah!
On the walk home we came across a group of children practicing a stick dance in front of a church. The coach was playing a Peruvian flute and the children were creating the rhythm with their sticks. They were all very synchronized... Except the little guy in the back. He was drumming to the beat of his own dance! :P
We stopped in another park for a play. Max spent a long while trying to climb into the fountain, I think he misses playing in the sprinkler with his Dada.
After another long day out and about, Max was happy to be back at Niños hotel and excited to show everyone his map.
I had a lesson on how to wear a "manta" earlier this week and decided to test mine out when Max was all tuckered out. It is surprisingly comfortable and secure. These Peruvian Mamas know what they're doing!
Tomorrow we are off to Ollantaytambo. Cusco has been lovely, but looking forward to being in the calm and quiet of the valley.
Another awesome carrier to add to your collection!
